About Us
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh was conceived in 1960 as a center of excellence which would endeavour to develop patterns of teaching in postgraduate medical education in as many branches as possible and attempt to produce specialists in several disciplines of medicine. It was also envisaged that these specialists would spread out in the country in various medical colleges and medical institutions and impart medical education of highest standard to the students and set up nucleus of excellence in their own institutions. The PGIMER Chandigarh was also given the responsibility to broaden the horizons of medical knowledge by intensive research in the field of health.
The College of Nursing was established in 1964 in Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh with an aim to bring primary health services within the reach of all individuals. From 2003 onwards College of Nursing, PGI, Chandigarh stands upgraded and renamed as National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh. Earlier the Nursing Institute was offering graduate and postgraduate degree courses in nursing under Panjab University. According to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh Amendment Act-2008 (No. 3 of 2008), degrees are now awarded by this Institute. NINE is also designated as WHO Collaborative centre since 2003.
Course Offered
- BSc Nursing - 4 years (only for female candidates).
(Introducing semester system and following new scheme of examination w.e.f. the session 2024 as per INC guidelines mentioned in the curriculum for B.Sc. Nursing- 4 years course.)
Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be 12th pass with 45 % or equivalent with PCM (medical) and english as a subject from recognized board.

The candidate must appear for entrance exam conducted by PGIMER to be eligible for admission after fulfilling the eligibility criteria.

Candidates appearing in 10+2 examination in 2024 can also apply for the course, but they will be issued admit card/roll numbers only if they submit the certificates/marks sheet from the respective Boards of their having passed the 10+2 examination to the Principal, NINE 10 days before the commencement of the entrance examination.

AGE LIMIT: Not more than 35 years and not less than 17 years on 1st September, 2024 i.e. those born after 01.09.2007 and before 01.09.1989 are not eligible.
Mode of Selection

The candidate must appear for Entrance exam conducted by PGIMER Chandigarh for Nursing 2024.

The Entrance Examination shall be conducted through a Computer Based Test (CBT).
Exam Pattern
Candidates will be considered for selection to B.Sc. Nursing course based on a test consisting of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs) with four alternatives. There will be Negative marking to the tune of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
