About Us
Chandigarh the ‘City Beautiful’ has one of the best educational facilities in the country. Besides the Panjab University and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, it has an Engineering College, College of Arts, College of Architecture, a number of Government and Private Degree Colleges and other prestigious and important research institutions. However city lacked a Medical College for graduate i.e. MBBS and postgraduate studies for the students belonging to Chandigarh. Chandigarh Administration decided to establish a Medical College in Chandigarh to remove this deficiency. For this purpose the Department of Medical Education & Research was created. In pursuance of the No Objection Certificate issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Vide their U.O. No. 12013/31-90ME(P) dated 15-01-91 Government Medical College was started in 1991 with following broad objectives:

To fulfill the glaring deficiency of an undergraduate Medical College in the Union Territory of Chandigarh which offers the best educational facilities in all other fields. The Government Medical College will be attached to a teaching hospital.

To act as a center for Continuing Medical Education Programmes for various categories of technical and non-technical personnel of different disciplines working within and from other institutions/hospitals.

Ranked 25 in NIRF's India Ranking 2020.

To render facilities for conducting research activities relating to different specialties, as and when required.
Courses Offered

BSc Medical Laboratory Technology - 3 years.

BSc Medical Laboratory Technology (X-Ray) - 3 years.

BSc Medical Laboratory Technology (Anesthesia & Operation Theatre Techniques) - 3 years.

B. Optometry - 4 years Course including 01 year internship.

BSc Nursing - 4 years including 6 months internship.
Eligibility Criteria
-
The candidate must be 12th pass or equivalent from Medical stream with English from any recognised board.

The candidate must appear for GCET 2024 entrance exam to be eligible for admission.

UT Chandigarh Pool QUOTA :
85% seats of the total sanctioned intake of an institution will be filled up from amongst the students who have passed their qualifying examination from schools/colleges recognized by the Chandigarh Administration and located in the Union Territory, Chandigarh, as regular students of the said school/college. -
In-service candidates QUOTA :
Employees who are in regular employment with UT Health Department/Department of Medical Education and Research and has completed regular service of five or more years in the concerned discipline in the UT Health Department/ Department of Medical Education and Research are In-service candidates. -
General Pool QUOTA :
Remaining 15% seats will be filled from amongst students who have passed their qualifying examination from institutions other than those located in the Union Territory, Chandigarh. -
Courses are open to Indian Nationals only.

Age: Minimum 17 years as on 31.12.2024.

Candidate should clearly specify the Pool against which he/she wishes to apply (UT Chandigarh Pool/General Pool).

Candidate should clearly specify the category against which he/she wishes to apply (General/SC/PwD/In-service).

Candidates desirous of applying for more than one course, if eligible, are not required to submit separate application form. The candidates can choose discipline of their preference if available in order of their rank in the GCET-2024 at the time of counseling.

All admissions in B.Sc. Nursing course shall be provisional and subject to the approval of Panjab University, Punjab Nurses Registration Council and Indian Nursing Council.
Selection Process
The candidate must fulfill the eligibility criteria & must appear for GCET 2024 entrance exam to be eligible for admissions.
Exam Pattern

The medium of GCET-2024 will be English only.

Paper will consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

Each question will carry 1 (one) mark (maximum marks 100)

There will be no negative marking.

For all the courses, the duration of the entrance test will be of two hours.
