About Us

 

Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is a public university which is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the 1959 act of the Indian parliament. It grew out of the Statistical Laboratory set up by Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in Presidency College, Kolkata. Established in 1931, this unique institution of India is one of the oldest institutions focused on statistics. Primary activities of ISI are research and training of statistics, development of theoretical statistics and its applications in various natural and social sciences. Key areas of ISI are statistics, computer science, mathematics, mathematical economics, operations research and information science and it is one of the few research oriented Indian schools offering courses at both the undergraduate and post graduate level.

 

 

Course Offered

 

  • BSc Statistics (H) – 3 years - Kolkata.

  • BSc Mathematics (H) – 3 years - Bangalore.

 

 

Eligibility Criteria

 

  • Candidates must be 12th pass from recognized board with mathematics/ statistics as a subject.

 

 

Admission Process

 

  1. ISI Admission Test 2025
    Indian Statistical Institute conducts its own Entrance Exam and it is a national level entrance exam which is conducted by ISI – Kolkata & Bangalore.
    Students will have to appear for ISI Test 2025.


    Exam Pattern

    Only Mathematics (level – upto Class 12th).


     

Stipend, Fellowships and Allowances
 

  • Stipend/ Fellowship per month – Rs 5000.

  • Contingency Grant per year – Rs 5000.
     

NOTE - Stipend/ Fellowship granted to a student may be reduced or completely withdrawn if the academic progress, attendance in class, or character and conduct of the student are not found satisfactory.

 

Full/partial waiver based on family income

 

  • Full (100%) remission of tuition fee for students whose family income is less than Rs. 1 lakh per annum

  • Partial (66.67%) remission of tuition fee for students whose family income is between Rs. 1 lakh per annum and Rs. 5 lakh per annum, both inclusive.

 

  1. INMO Channel of Admission
    There is a separate provision for applicants who have been selected as INMO AWARDEES to participate in the International Mathematics Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) in the years 2024 and 2025 based on their performance in the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO), conducted by the National Board of Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Such candidates are also required to apply through the Application Portal.
    The number of seats for INMO AWARDEES is supernumerary, subject to a maximum of 5 seats. There will be no Written Test, and the selection to these supernumerary seats will be based on interview. Merely holding an INMO Certificate of Merit from Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) or clearing any Math Olympiad organised by any other organisation will not make a candidate eligible for these supernumerary seats.
