Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) is a premier Scientific Research Institute located in Kolkata. Founded in the year 1876 by Dr. Mahendralal Sircar, an acclaimed medical practitioner of his time, IACS is the oldest scientific institution in Asia funded by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and the Government of West Bengal. Sir C.V. Raman made his historic discovery of ‘Raman Effect’ at IACS.

 

 

Courses Offered

 

5-year Integrated Bachelor's-Master’s Program in Science.

The duration of the course shall be three (6 semesters for Bachelor’s part) + two (4 semesters for Master’s part) academic years.
The first three semesters of the program shall comprise foundational courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, and Biological Sciences. From the 4th semester onward students will focus on one of the above-mentioned subjects as a major under the respective School. Major subject selection will be based on the choice of the students and the number of available seats in each school. In the process, the performance of the students until their 3rd semester will be considered. The UG committee will make the final decision.

 

 

Eligibility Criteria

 

  • The candidate must be 12th pass from recognized board.

  • The candidate must be from the Science stream.

  • Having Mathematics as a subject is compulsory.

 

 

Admission Process

 

The candidate must appear for the entrance test (UPST 2025) after fulfilling the eligibility criteria to be eligible for admissions.

Eligibility - Science only.For the UPST, candidates need to attempt 20 questions (2 marks each) from the three compulsory subject (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and another 20 questions (2 marks each) from either Biology or Computer Science. There will be 1 (one) negative mark for 3 (three) wrong answers.
(a) A cut-off mark to be set based on the aggregate-score of the three compulsory subjects (Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics) in the written test for shortlisting for an interview.
(b) Final merit list will be prepared considering appropriate weightage of the written test score (including Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology/ Computer Sciences) as well as the score in the interview. Both the written test score and the interview score will be individually scaled to 100 prior to calculating the weightage values.
